Two Tier Approach MovePoint takes a two tier approach to your security. The first tier is digital security where you control the flow of information from the server and software by restricting who can see what information and how the server can be accessed. This tier is designed to protect company data from devious employees or malicious hackers. The second tier is physical security, making sure your data is safe from hardware failure, unauthorized access, or even conditions such as power or internet blackouts. MovePoint has a staff of seasoned Network security professionals with over 20+ years of experience for a multitude of different companies.

Digital Data Security

Within MovePoint there are a variety of security groups and elements. This allows access level control over employees, as well IP restrictions which can block certain or all users from accessing the software from outside the office. Effective use of these privileges will protect company data from rogue intruders.

Each copy of MovePoint is a separate Java instance with its own allocated memory, hard drive space, and database. Each database is accessed with a separate user name and password behind the scenes. This way company data and users don’t mingle with other companies, eliminating potential threats and compartmentalizing the risk.

MovePoint servers run on the Red Hat derivative CentOs, an industrial grade Linux environment used by many Fortune 500 companies. The servers have been locked down and firewalled to prevent intrusions from hackers. Our network professionals monitor and log all intrusion attempts and frequently do security audits to make sure that vulnerabilities are removed.

Few MovePoint employees will ever access a company’s data. As a rule lower tier employees will never touch a client’s data or database. Certified upper tier or support employees are given access but only when required for a trouble ticket. All company’s information is strictly confidential and is not shared with anyone.

Physical Data Security

Redundancy
MovePoint runs with an N+1 architecture with everything having a stand by in case of failure. Each server uses Raid configured hard drives meaning if one drive fails the others take over and a spare drive replaces the failed drive. All servers have a backup for quick switch over in case of hardware failure.

Backups
Data is stored in two physical machines simultaneously incase one fails. Every night the databases are backed up in the server facilities and transferred to two different off-site locations incase of any natural disaster. It is then backed up to tape drives.

Facilities -- internet, power, and security
MovePoint is housed in a co-location facility with all the latest methods of protection. Unlike most facilities, this one has been designed from the ground up to keep things safe. Everything is also in a N+1 architecture with the most modern security and safety measures in place.

The building structure was designed to withstand a direct hit from a small tornado. It is centrally located 50ft from the internet backbone traveling to Atlanta reducing the hops and fiber optics needed to transport data, with every major carrier feeding into the building. Their BGP address technology takes advantage of the mutliple carriers by switching the route data is sent and received based on the best path. This means if a backbone server in Washington goes down you will be unaffected.

The facility has two 1.3 megawatt utility feeds from different power grids and a huge 2.0 megawatt diesel generator the size of a train engine making sure that power will never be an issue, even if the entire state goes dark. The facility boasts only 7 seconds of outage in the past 10 years.

The building utilizes raised floors to prevent flooding and circulate air up to help cool the servers and facility. Two 30 Ton Libert cooling units are used to control the climate and sense any form of combustion where you have a Halon fire extinguisher system as well a back up sprinkler system to put out any fires.

The entire place has only one entrance and from the moment you pull up until you drive off you are being video taped with 100% coverage of the area. To get in the building a magnetic key fob is required which allows you access to an office area. You must then use a Biometric Hand Scanner with 7 digit code to enter the server area. After the hand scan you are put into a dead man trap with prison grade caging surrounding you. Another hand scan with 7 digit code is required to get on to the server room floor. However the door won’t open until the other one is shut. Once on the server room floor there are multiple cages and racks, each having their own key to access. All this makes sure no one is going to touch, bump or mess with the server.
